Today we have put some base colour on to Commander Culln.

This base colour will serve as a mid tone for the project then we will have a couple of shadow tones and a couple of lighter highlight tone to bring up the contrast.

The customer requested us the NMM ( non-metallic metal) style on the mini so we have given the model a mid brown basecoat for the gold area( which will get shaded down to black) and the grey metal areas are givin a dark grey (50/50 mid grey and black) tone to start with.

The armour was given a grey black and brown mix to add extra tones to the final stages. A Crimson tone for example GW Red gore was painted onto the red areas.

Face was a flat flesh tone such as Gw Bugmans glow as this flesh tone is fairly red and shades very well with other colours.

The areas to be white are give a blue grey coat first (white is fairly complexs to paint but we will go into that at a further stage).

The paper areas are painted a dark brown to give an aged and worn look.

Don't worry at this point if things are looking a little bloachy or if white is showing for when we get to shading and highlighting stages these will smoothout and disappear.  This stage was painted with a medium brush ( GW standard or size 1 artists brush).

To compare with Forgeworlds' artst below we are aiming to add more contrast and shading so that the characters mini stands out from their army.
